Turning Heads in the 2018 GMC Terrain Denali

Denali is the highest trim available. That means you’re getting the best GMC has to offer – and let me tell you, it’s pretty amazing. The 2018 GMC Terrain has undergone an incredible transformation during its redesign and we are here for it. The Denali trim takes it to another level with available features that don’t feel like they’re trying too hard but still accomplish that feeling of luxury. And guess what, the price is something to rejoice.

The Exterior

The Denali was available for the 2017 Terrain as well, but it has transcended its old generation body and evolved into the new exterior that speaks volumes about GMC’s direction. The compact SUV is aimed at style and comfort, and it clearly fits that mould. The Terrain Denali stands with a bold, multidimensional grille to draw your eye to the C-shaped headlamps and fog lamps. Extend your eyes to the shape and you’re looking at 19-inch ultra-bright machined-aluminum wheels and chrome details that accentuate the luxurious trim. The sleek shape and floating roof offer an attractive transition to the rear end, which tie into the front with C-shaped taillights and dual exhaust. The colour selection has something for anyone: choose from neutral metallic shades of Graphite Gray, Ebony Twilight, Quicksilver, Blue Steel, or Satin Steel. Or go for classic Summit White or bold Red Quartz Tintcoat to brighten up your daily drive.

2018 GMC Terrain Denali Interior

Terrain Denali Interior

The stunning exterior design flows seamlessly into the interior. Whether you’re in the driver’s seat or the unofficial backseat driver, you’re comfortable. You’re sitting in first class. Be embraced by the heated and ventilated French-stitched leather-appointed seats and the soothing sounds of your favourite music from the Bose Premium 7-speaker sound system. Keep extremities warm in our predictably cold winters with the heated leather-wrapped steering wheel. Stay organized with the versatile cargo space meant to accommodate whatever you may need to haul inside the compact SUV. The front-to-back load floor includes flat-folding front passenger and second-row seats so you can use every inch of interior space.

Sitting behind the wheel is different than the predecessor model. For one thing, the key-ignition is a thing of the past. The 2018 Terrain opted for the push-start button, which offers keyless open and start functions, so you don’t need to fumble for keys. It’s secure and convenient. Another major change in the 2018 model is the sleek button-style shifter, called the Electronic Precision Shifter, in lieu of the stock gear shifter of past models.

2018 Terrain Denali Electronic Shifter

Electronic Precision Shifter

Electronic Precision Shift uses the Terrain’s electronic transmission to its fullest; the gears are selected by a series of intuitive push/pull switches at the bottom of the centre stack, instead of physically moving a shifter and linkage. Why make this change? Simple. It reduces noise, elevating the sense of refinement in the Terrain. It also frees up usable space within the centre console.

Even though it seems foreign, the electronic shifter becomes easy to use very quickly. To shift into park or neutral, the driver must push the respective switch, while reverse or drive require the driver to pull the switch to avoid confusion with any other buttons. There are preventative safeguards put in place to keep the new system working to avoid mistakes; drivers must engage the brake to shift out of park, the vehicle cannot shift into park unless it is travelling less than 5km/h, and it cannot shift into reverse driving more than 10km/h. If a driver shuts off the vehicle while in drive or reverse, the Terrain will automatically shift into park.
