Turning Heads in the 2018 GMC Terrain Denali

2018 terrain denali in Edmonton

Denali is the highest trim available. That means you’re getting the best GMC has to offer – and let me tell you, it’s pretty amazing. The 2018 GMC Terrain has undergone an incredible transformation during its redesign and we are here for it. The Denali trim takes it to another level with available features that don’t feel like they’re trying too hard but still accomplish that feeling of luxury. And guess what, the price is something to rejoice.

GMC Acadia and Terrain Black Edition

Acadia and Terrain Black Edition

With the sheer amount of SUVs and trucks on Canadian roads, it can be hard not to feel invisible driving one. That’s likely a major reason their drivers love spending money to modify the appearance of their vehicles. Some choose lift kits, gaudy racing stripes, obnoxious stickers, and gleaming chrome wheels. But others prefer to express their identity more subtly. For them, I recommend the new Terrain Black Edition and Acadia Black Edition from GMC.

The 2018 Canyon

2018 GMC Canyon in Edmonton

The 2018 GMC Canyon

Encouraged by the relatively low price of oil, breakthroughs in the efficiency of combustion engines, and lightweight construction materials, automakers have continued to invest tons of resources in trucks and SUVs. For roughly the same reasons, customers have been abandoning cars in favour of bigger vehicles. And for those that think full-size pickups are too big, the choice has been an easy one. The 2018 GMC Canyon is handily the best mid-size pickup. That’s a bold claim, so let’s try to back it up.

The 2018 GMC Canyon gives you the choice of three fantastic engines.

  • 2.8L Duramax Turbo Diesel: 181 horsepower and 369 lb.-ft. of torque
  • 3.6L VVT V6 with 308-horsepower and 275 lb.-ft. of torque
  • 2.5L 4-cylinder with 200 horsepower and 191 lb.-ft. of torque

Those that want to prioritise towing and fuel economy will choose the Duramax Turbo Diesel, and the four-cylinder delivers some good bang-for-buck. But the star of the powertrain lineup is definitely the 3.6L V6. It comes with standard Active Fuel Management which reduces the number of cylinders in use when driving at low speeds to drastically improve fuel economy. It’s even paired with a refined 8-speed automatic transmission. Shorter space between the gears results in better fuel economy and improved acceleration.

While the GMC Canyon is technically a mid-size pickup, it never feels too small. Inside, you get plenty of headroom and legroom, making it highly liveable. For rear passengers, the extended cab variant is a little tight, but the crew cab model offers a pretty comfortable ride. However, when it comes to trucks, the space offered in cargo areas is invariably more important to the average driver.

And you don’t have to worry there, because the Canyon offers plenty of space for equipment. At 1,879.6 mm, the Canyon’s long box is longer than the Sierra’s short box (1,760.98 mm) and only 12cm shorter than its standard box. However, even the 2018 Canyon with the short box offers plenty of room.

2018 Canyon Denali

A Denali is the greatest realisation of professional-grade performance and luxury, and will never be mistaken for anything else on the road. That’s why the exterior of the 2018 Canyon Denali is comprised of all things bright and shiny like 20” Ultra-Bright Aluminum wheels, 5” chrome side steps, and LED signature headlights.  LED in the cargo box which turns it into a mobile workstation. Of course, these features are as much for looking like a boss as they are for performance.

The interior is polished and refined, too. Up front, you get heated and ventilated leather seats as well as a heated steering wheel. There’s a standard 8” infotainment system with onboard navigation and a standard Bose premium seven-speaker audio system. Your favourite music and audiobooks will sound even better thanks to the fact that you have Bose Active Noise Cancellation cutting out the sound of the road and the wind.

Who Should Drive the 2018 GMC Canyon?

The 2018 Canyon is the perfect vehicle for pickup owners who need a maneuverable vehicle for the city, but also need occasional extreme capability. If you need to haul a trailer on the weekends, or find yourself doing some occasional hauling, you can perform those tasks with confidence without making major sacrifices in terms of fuel economy and convenience that larger trucks guarantee.

2018 Buick Regal: Is That a Buick?

The 2018 Buick Regal

The “Is That a Buick?” advertising campaign has come and gone, along with the stodgy vehicles of the past. Now Buick is letting its vehicles speak for themselves. The LaCrosse, Encore, and Enclave have all been completely redesigned under a modern and elegant aesthetic. But the 2018 Buick Regal is set to really push the envelope. Its exterior design is fluid and graceful and Buick is even offering a few performance variants.

The 2018 Buick Regal (Starting MSRP $31,945)

The Encore may be Buick’s best-selling model, and the LaCrosse may be the de facto flagship, but that should not overshadow the achievements of the 2018 Buick Regal. Just look at the thing! Instead of a sedan, Buick is calling the Regal a sportback, which means that the roof slopes downward from the mid-cabin to the rear. That architecture, combined with the sharp new headlights make the Regal look like a distant cousin of the Jaguar. Finally, with the new recessed grille and split-wing badge, drivers will be proud parking in front of the office.

On lower trims, the interior remains conservative with a clear priority of comfort. That is by no means a bad thing. But it is safe – something you wouldn’t expect given the aggressive nature of the exterior redesign. And with Buick’s QuietTuning and available Active Noise Cancellation your cabin is supremely quiet, making it a joy on the highway. Of course, when you move to the more sport-oriented trims, you can still hear the engine growl.

Buick Regal GS (Starting MSRP $43,945)

This is where things get really exciting. Inarguably, the sports sedan market has been languishing. So, when an entry like the 2018 Buick Regal GS enters the field, people take note. When you wring out the standard 3.6L V6 and its 310 horsepower, it’s easy to get in tune with the road. The engine is confident, powerful, and even fun. Buick also includes standard Intelligent All-Wheel Drive in the 2018 Regal GS. By constantly monitoring the grip of each wheel, Intelligent AWD keeps the sportback tight and confident in the corners – in all conditions.

  • Brembo Performance Brakes
  • 9-Speed Automatic Transmission
  • 19” Technical Grey Aluminum Wheels

Buick Regal TourX

For 2018, the Sportback is not the only new face the Buick Regal will be wearing. Early next year, the Buick Regal TourX will be hitting showroom floors. The North American equivalent of the Opel Insignia is clearly a station wagon, but Buick would like us to all pretend that it’s a crossover, so shhhh!

Of course, Buick’s reluctance to use the words station and wagon in succession is understandable. The whole continent is SUV is crazy, and while there is no discernible performance difference between a station wagon and a small crossover, buyers have abandoned the former (cars in general, really) in favour of the latter. And while taste is subjective, it’s hard not to believe that the 2018 Regal TourX is far more handsome than the Buick Encore, for example.

Plus, its Intelligent AWD, increased cargo space, and long roofline make it an all-season warrior for weekend getaways. Pound for pound (or dollar for dollar) the Regal TourX puts high-priced competitors like the BMW 3-Series Touring wagon to shame. It’s engine has more horsepower and torque and it has an MSRP roughly $15,000 lower!

The 2018 Buick LaCrosse

The 2018 Buick LaCrosse

The 2018 Buick LaCrosse

The LaCrosse is Buick’s flagship sedan – and a worthy one. Last year, it introduced Buick’s brand-new design language. In the past, Buick’s vehicles have been dated by the time they hit the showroom floor. But the 2018 Buick LaCrosse is clearly more about timelessness than trend. Smooth arches and refined details combine to create the impression that Buick is really back. And the details won’t disappoint the fine first-impression.

The standard engine is a 2.5L I-4 supplemented by “eAssist light electrification.” Buick has eschewed calling it a hybrid, ostensibly to avoid frightening the average consumer. But it simply means that you get the best of power and fuel economy. For those who want even more power, Buick also offers an available 3.6L V6 with an impressive 310 horsepower. And, thanks to Active Fuel Management, which reduces the number of cylinders in use at low speeds, it still gets great fuel economy.

Comfort and refinement preside over the interior. Bose’s Active Noise Control and Buick QuietTuning provide a remarkably quiet cabin, even when driving at high speeds. In the silence, you can enjoy stunning details like the standard leather-wrapped steering wheel, 8” touch screen, and OnStar 4G LTE WiFi. Other standard features include:

  • Remote Start
  • Rear Park Assist
  • HID headlamps

2018 Buick LaCrosse Avenir

Earlier this year, the Buick Enclave became the first vehicle to be released under the Avenir badge. Avenir is Buick’s new premium trim, and it signals first-class refinement and style. Now, the 2018 LaCrosse is set to join the Enclave and become buick’s first Avenir car.

Nine out of ten LaCrosse buyers are choosing one of the top two trim levels — customers are signalling they want more from Buick. With even more content and an elegant look, Avenir adds a unique name and appearance for those who want the best of our attainable luxury.

-Duncan Aldred, Vice President of Buick

It’s impressive look begins with the Avenir grille. Buick calls it “three-dimensional” but I would more impressed if it was two-dimensional. In any case, it looks fantastic with it’s sharp wing badge and lower complement. And the breathtaking style carries over into the interior where you’ll find premium leathers and custom Avenir stitching. Buick has also included the Bose Centerpoint Surround Sound premium audio and panoramic moonroof.

Refined Performance

The LaCrosse Avenir comes with the standard 310 horsepower V6 and nine-speed automatic transmission. The combination ensures that the power delivery is not only immediate and forceful, but also remarkably smooth. Other available performance features include Intelligent Twin-Clutch AWD and a Dynamic Drive Package with continuously variable real-time dampening control.

The 2018 Buick LaCrosse and LaCrosse Avenir will arrive in early 2018.

The 2018 GMC Acadia: Room for Surprises

The 2018 GMC Acadia in Ebony Twilight Metallic

The 2018 GMC Acadia

Moving seven people in style has never been easier thanks to the 2018 GMC Acadia. It offers comfortable seating, great driving dynamics, and some undeniable style. GMC has advertised that the third row is easy to access – and it actually is. Plus, when you need to fit more gear for your next adventure, the second and third rows fold flat to open up a remarkable amount of cargo space.

The 2018 GMC Acadia sets the tone with distinctive grille designs. GMC designed the headlamps to wrap around the sides of the vehicle. As a result, they blend into the overall architecture of the vehicle and parallel the wraparound rear window. Overall, the design of the 2018 GMC Acadia is dominated by smooth lines and an athletic stance.

The 2018 GMC Acadia’s style may get people inside, but it’s the outstanding interior comfort that keeps them there. Perks like a leather-wrapped steering wheel and OnStar 4G LTE WiFi come standard. Importantly, comfortable seating for seven comes standard, too. You can choose from seating materials like Ash Gray perforated leather and Jet Black premium cloth. And, with Active Noise Cancellation, the cabin is a refuge from the sound of the wind and road.

Other standard features in the new 2018 GMC Acadia include:

  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Automatic Climate Control
  • 7-inch infotainment screen
  • Rear Vision Camera
  • Keyless open & start

2018 Acadia Denali

Denali is the peak of professional grade. GMC’s highest trim level continues to represent a perfect balance between rugged performance and uncompromising luxury. It starts with the iconic Denali grille, bright 20” aluminum wheels and dual chrome exhaust that create a striking image. Exterior refinement is reflected on the inside. With perforated leather-trimmed seats, Denali-exclusive stitching, and a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel; the 2018 Acadia Denali is truly first-class – which is rare when it comes to a vehicle with room for seven.

  • Front Pedestrian Detection and automatic forward braking.
  • Lane keep assist, forward collision alert
  • Leather-wrapped, heated steering wheels

Of course, Acadia Denali also offers the best in performance, including a 3.6L V6 engine. With 310 horsepower, you can comfortably conquer any conditions and drive smoothly on the highway. It also features Active Fuel Management which reduces the number of cylinders in use when driving at low speeds. And, variable Traction Select allows you to choose from five driving modes, All-Wheel Drive, Off-Road, Snow, Sport, and Trailer/Tow for total driving confidence in any conditions.

The 2018 Buick Enclave: Loud Statement, Quiet Crossover

2018 Buick Enclave

The 2018 Buick Enclave

The Buick Enclave has been completely redesigned. Not only is 2018 Buick Enclave sharper, more athletic, and sleeker than previous iterations, it’s also better looking than most SUVs of a comparable size. That image starts with the brand new grille and winged headlamps that transition smoothly into the sharp exterior lines. The rear fascia has been entirely remodelled.

The atmosphere of modern sophistication is continued inside the 2018 Buick Enclave. In every single Enclave you’ll find premium materials like real wood and brushed chrome accents. SmartSlide allows to easily access the third row. You can also lower the third row with the press of a button. When you lower the second and third-row seats, you get access to an impressive amount of cargo space.

The 2018 Buick Enclave truly lives up to its name. I mean it’s really quiet. Quiet conversation is easy and comfortable, even when driving on the highway or over rough terrain (why are you driving your new Enclave over rough terrain?). How is that possible? It’s largely thanks to standard Buick QuietTuning. QuietTuning refers to the strict engineering process that Buick uses to eliminate unwanted sound from entering the cabin.

Buick actually uses quite a few techniques to achieve this. Buick has triple-sealed the doors and acoustic-laminated the windshield and side windows. They specially tuned the suspension to minimize the sound of the road. Then, they insulated both sides of the dashboard with sound-absorbing material. Finally, they set the engine on a hydraulic mount to prevent vibration noise. But I guess you don’t really need to know all that. You just need to take a test drive and realise how pristinely quiet the 2018 Enclave is.

Enclave Avenir

The launch of the 2018 Buick Enclave will also be the launch of the Avenir sub-brand. The Avenir was a luxury sedan concept from 2016 that Buick decided to spin into a trim level like GMC has done with Denali. And, like Denali, the Buick Enclave Avenir will offer the best in terms of performance, style, and comfort. It starts with the interior, which features a custom chestnut and ebony theme. Real wood, leather, and embroidery accents create a perfectly refined atmosphere.

The Enclave Avenir comes with a customisable, 8” dash display. You can choose the layout and which is information is displayed. You also get a wireless charging mat. Just place your smartphone in the designated spot and it will charge up as you drive – no more dealing with wires every time you get in and out of your vehicle. On the outside, you’ll find a signature Black Ice grille with chrome wings and 20” aluminum wheels with nickel finish.

The 2018 Buick Enclave is the best kind of surprise. If you’ve been looking for a comfortable, quiet, and stylish SUV for a reasonable price; look no further.

The 2018 Yukon Denali

The 2018 Yukon Denali.

The highest peak of professional grade just stretched a little higher with the 2018 Yukon Denali.

The 2018 Yukon Denali

The GMC Yukon stands atop GMC’s SUV lineup. It’s a category in which practicality and power are essential. But, increasingly, luxury is too. In fact, more than half of Yukons sold are in the Denali trim level – GMC’s highest trim.

The 2018 Yukon Denali features a defining new grille design. Alternating thin and thick slats replace the square mesh design of previous models. Matt Noone, director of Exterior Design, says, “The new grille, which is flanked by HID headlamps and LED Signature Lighting, advances the design legacy established with the very first Yukon Denali in 1999.” The grille is also made smarter by the inclusion of automatic shutters that close at speed to reduce drag and increase aerodynamics.

However, you shouldn’t get the impression that power and practicality aren’t on show in the new Yukon. A 6.2L V8 engine, capable of 420 horsepower, is standard. Active Fuel Management is standard, too. The system switches from eight to four-cylinder operation automatically when performance demands are lower. Obviously, this improves fuel efficiency greatly. Additionally, the 2018 Yukon Denali will include a Hydra-Matic 10-speed automatic transmission which was developed in conjunction with Ford. Standard wheels are 20”, but there are also available 22” wheels.

In modern vehicles, luxury is synonymous with technology. The 8” diagonal GMC Infotainment system includes navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. With smartphone integration you can manage phone calls, messages, and media with voice controls. And, with wireless device charging, you can simply set your phone on the charging mat to replenish the battery. The 2018 Yukon Denali’s driver information cluster also offers a head-up display, so you project dynamic information onto the windshield of your Yukon.

More standard and available features include:

  • StabiliTrak, trailer sway control, and hill start assist
  • Active Noise Cancellation
  • Standard, five-year OnStar Basic Plan with 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot
  • Heated and ventilated driver and passenger seats, heated second-row seats
  • Hands-free programmable power liftgate

The 2018 GMC Yukon will be available for purchase this fall.

Introducing the 2018 Buick Enclave

Enclave was introduced as a game-changer for the Buick brand and has since become one of our most successful and important vehicles. It set the tone for a more progressive Buick, helping change perception for us and serving as the standard-bearer of what our products stand for: smart, stylish luxury.

-Duncan Aldred, Global Buick and GMC Vice President

Meet the 2018 Buick Enclave.

The 2018 Buick Enclave

Now is an exciting time for Buick. The heavy lifting of their lineup overhaul is complete, and they can now focus on refining their vehicles. And the 2018 Enclave is perhaps the first Buick to reap the full benefit of this overhaul. Drivers will immediately notice the new 2018 Buick Enclave’s styling. Buick has completely reimagined the interior. A sharp, narrow new grille punctuates the athletic posture. You’ll also find Evonik Acrylite lighting technology and LED lighting to complete the aggressive new design.

Under the hood, the 2018 Buick Enclave will have a standard 3.6L V6 generates 302 horsepower and 260 lb-ft. of torque. Buick is pairing it with a nine-speed automatic transmission and auto stop/start technology for better fuel efficiency – and efficiency in general. Put that power to good use by upgrading to the available intelligent AWD. It is Buick’s first switchable AWD system. From the outside, the combination of force and ingenuity promises a highly enjoyable drive.

The Driver’s Enclave

Inside the 2018 Buick Enclave, you’ll find a standard 8” infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Car Play. That also includes OnStar 4G LTE WiFi. Those features, along with available 10-speaker Bose sound system, can be fully enjoyed in the Enclave’s remarkably quiet cabin. Both QuietTuning and active noise cancellation have been improved even further. The combination of those technologies creates a silent cabin, even when driving over rough stretches of highway. You can carry out conversation from the third row to the first with little strain.

Frankly, the amount of standard features in the 2018 Buick Enclave is staggering. In addition to everything mentioned above, standard equipment in the 2018 Enclave includes:

  • Keyless Entry & Push-Button Start
  • Hands-Free Programmable Liftgate
  • Tri-Shield Logo Illuminating the Ground
  • Tri-Zone Climate Control

As you might expect, the Enclave also has a comprehensive suite of available safety technology:

  • Forward Collision Alert
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning
  • Safety Alert Seat
  • Following Distance Indicator
  • Front Park Assist

Obviously, the 2018 Buick Enclave is shaping up to be a very exciting SUV for the new model year. So, if you’re a fan of Buick’s new direction, don’t miss the Enclave.

Buick Regal Sportback and Tour X

Buick is adding two new variants to the Regal: “Buick builds on its track record of making bold moves outside traditional vehicle segments to deliver unique customer offerings that fit modern lifestyles.” One of those “unique offerings” is a powerful sports sedan, the Buick Regal Sportback, and the other is a reimagined station wagon.

Buick Regal Sportback and Tour X.

Buick Regal Sportback

The Buick Regal Sportback starts with available All-Wheel Drive and eight-speed automatic transmission. The Sportback’s AWD system “uses two clutches at the rear wheels for seamless, smart torque distribution. Beneficial not just in snowy weather but also during spirited driving, the system relies less on braking to maintain maximum performance and efficiency.” Buick have also added a 2.0L engine that cranks out 250 horsepower to push those wheels.

In 2017, Buick’s entire lineup received 5-Star Safety Ratings from IIHS. Now, they’re building on that success with the latest in safety technology. For example, the Sportback will add an industry first active hood pedestrian safety system. The system “senses the imminent impact of a pedestrian between 25-48 km/h (16-30 mph) and uses a pyrotechnic actuator to lift the back of the hood […] to lessen the impact and potentially reduce injury.” But, with available Front Pedestrian Braking, collisions with pedestrians can hopefully be avoided entirely. Other available safety features on theBuick Regal Sportback include:

  • Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert,
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • Rear Park Assist.
  • Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning
  • Forward Collision Alert
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Forward Automatic Braking

Buick Regal Tour X

The Canadian auto market is showing a high demand for compact and subcompact SUVs. Drivers want fuel efficient vehicles with AWD functionality. For this reason, all three of Buick’s SUVs outsell their cars. So, it makes sense that Buick would aim for the gap between the compact SUV and large sedans. Therefore, they’re introducing the 2018 Regal Tour X in hopes of making the station wagon sexy again. To its credit, the Tour X evinces some European flair. It’s design lines are much smoother than competitors like the Volkswagen Golf Alltrack. In other words, it’s not the boxy station wagon with rear-facing seats from your childhood road trips. But the logic behind reintroducing the station wagon is function, not form.

And the Tour X is certainly functional. It will have greater ground clearance than other Regal models and will likely feature All-Wheel Drive. Further, it will share the Sportback’s turbocharged 2.0L Tour X But perhaps its greatest feature is the ample cargo space. Behind the rear seats, you’ll find 33 cubic feet. When you fold those seats down, you’ll get 74 cubic feet. That’s enough space to rival most small SUVs. The cost, if you consider it as such, is the Regal’s size. The Tour X is incredibly long – seven inches longer than the comparable Subaru Outback. Then again, it will be a more manageable driving platform than most compact SUVs.

Both the Sportback and Tour X will be available at the beginning of next year. If you can’t wait that long, explore the 2017 Regal today.
